An earlier type of rapid plough travelling at 70 f.p.m. across the face, and since it is not powered, it is not necessary to travel the face with it. The plough takes a 3-4 in. slice of coal at each traverse and gives 10 tons or more O.M.S. at the face.

Il faut savoir que plus de 95 % des rabots utilisés en Europe Continentale et en Angleterre sont des rabots Lobbe, du modèle [rapide], ou du modèle [rajouté], directement dérivé de celui-ci. Les rabots travaillent par arrachement [...] La difficulté d'arrachement d'un copeau de charbon est bien plus que proportionnelle à son épaisseur. C'est en partant de ce principe que l'inventeur du convoyeur cuirassé, Lobbe, imagina aussi le rabot rapide.
