A symbol, design, word, letter, etc., used by a manufacturer or dealer to distinguish a product or products from those of competitors, and usually registered and protected by law.

A trademark owner's own improper use of a mark is the most powerful evidence that rights in the mark have been forfeited.

Trade mark originally appeared in the language as two words. It was, quite literally, the mark used by one member of a trade to differentiate his product from his competitor's product. With the passage of time, the phrase was joined by a hyphen ... For the past several decades, however, the tendency has been very strong to write it [as a solid word] (trademark) whether it is used as a noun or as a verb.

The general term "mark" is often used in texts as an elliptical variant of "trademark."

Fish are marked or tagged so that individuals or groups of fish can be readily identified or differentiated from other individuals or groups of fish. Fish identification can provide information on fish movement, stock identification, population estimates, growth and also aid in laboratory based research studies. Where groups of fish need to be cohabited, the use of different marks such as fin clips or freeze branding can allow easy distinction between the groups.

Turn and slip indicator. The instrument is comprised of two components. -The turn needle is an electrically driven gyroscope which indicates the rate of turn. The marks (often called the doghouse) on either side of center represents a bank angle of 15 degrees. This is termed a standard rate turn. The rate of turn is 3 degrees per second. It takes 2 minutes to turn 360 degrees. -The glass level containing the black ball is called the inclinometer. It provides the pilot with a measure of the turn quality.

good: A call used when simultaneous observations are being made, to indicate to the second person the moment a reading is to be made, as when the time of a celestial observation is to be noted; or the moment a reading is a prescribed value.

When the head tapeman applies the tension, the rear plumb bob may be pulled a short distance off the point. The rear tapeman must pull the tape back at once with a smooth notion. He or she must try to hold the tape stationary and, as soon as it is in the correct position, call "mark". He or she should continue to call "mark" while it is in correct position and stop calling if it goes off. He or she stops calling "mark" when the head tapeman relieves the tension.
