Marl-limestone alternations were thus dominantly resulting from cyclic export of platform carbonates towards deeper environments (deep shelves, epicontinental and hemipelagic basins) rather than nannoplankton (pelagic) productivity cycles.

Les alternances calcaire-marne d'âge crétacé inférieur des sites océaniques DSDP 534 (Atlantique Central) et 535 (golfe du Mexique) et du bassin vocontien (sud-Est de la France), représentant de beaux exemples de cycles de productivité du carbonate de calcium, ont été choisies comme cadre d'étude pour démontrer : - le lien entre les variations cycliques de la teneur en CaCO3 et les paramètres orbitaux (Crétacé inférieur vocontien); - le lien entre les variations relatives des «flux de matière» et les fluctuations du niveau marin relatif (Crétacé inférieur des sites DSDP et du bassin vocontien).
