Formerly, style guides recommended the use of the periods in ... abbreviations ... of academic degrees (B.Sc., M.A., Ph.D.). The more recent trend ... is towards dropping the periods in all such abbreviations unless tradition or consistency requires them.

Dans son sens large, le terme santé publique se rapproche de celui de médecine communautaire. Il est étroitement lié aussi aux concepts de médecine préventive et de médecine sociale. (HOSAN,1977,,,212). Ainsi l'Université de Montréal offre un programme conduisant au M. Sc. (santé communautaire) ou au Diplôme en santé communautaire, relevant du Département de médecine sociale et préventive. (Annuaire 1984-1985, Faculté des études supérieures, Université de Montréal, p. 5-126).
