Pour renforcer les absorbeurs destinés au contrôle zonal, quatre absorbeurs de contrôle mécaniques sont utilisés. Ils ressemblent aux barres d'arrêt mais ils sont contrôlés par le système de réglage du réacteur. On peut les faire descendre ou monter à des vitesses variables. On peut également les faire tomber par gravité en desserrant l'embrayage.
