OBS

Considéré comme pathologique par P. Chaslin, le mentisme, du moins isolé, est en fait assez banal, survenant dans des périodes de fatigue et de tension. Facilité par une anxiété foncière, il est parfois déclenché par un psychostimulant. Au plan pathologique, il est décrit chez l'obsessionnel comme fréquent et souvent durable, chez des schizophrènes en dehors de poussées évolutives et au stade préhallucinatoire de l'automatisme mental.
