In September 2001, candidates from across Canada began the Meteorologist Operational Training Program at MSC training centres in Dartmouth (Nova Scotia), Montreal (Quebec), and Edmonton (Alberta). In January, they travelled to the Canadian Meteorological Centre to learn about operations, speak with MSC scientists, and meet other trainees.
