ABB-Bomen, de Québec, a participé à la production d'un des huit instruments de bord d'ENVISAT, l'interféromètre de Michelson pour le sondage passif de l'atmosphère (MIPAS). Le MIPAS est un spectromètre de Fourier - un instrument sophistiqué servant à mesurer les concentrations des différentes composantes de l'atmosphère. Sa limite de résolution spectrale et sa gamme spectrale sont élevées, lui permettant ainsi de mesurer plus de 20 gaz à l'état de traces autour du globe, en toutes saisons et à toutes pressions atmosphériques et températures.
