[En sismologie,] la «méthode Michon» (1962) permet de déterminer la valeur techniquement optimum du taux de multiplication : on compare deux films réalisés dans des conditions aussi identiques que possible; le paramètre qui varie, c'est la situation dans l'espace du groupe d'ébranlements ou du groupe de sismographes, mais encore on prend généralement soin que les deux groupes sur lesquels porte la comparaison soient imbriqués. Si les deux enregistrements ne sont pas superposables, on escompte une amélioration en utilisant pour un seul enregistrement l'ensemble des deux groupes; dans le cas contraire, on tient pour établi que le taux de multiplication optimum est atteint ou dépassé.
