Détérioration se produisant dans une conduite dont l'eau contient des sulfates. En l'absence d'oxygène, les bactéries du soufre réduisent les sulfates à l'état de sulfures avec production de H2S. Il se produit alors une corrosion localisée sous forme de piqûres. La présence d'une petite quantité de matières organiques favorise le développement de ces organismes.
