Par convention de signe, le courant de migration est négatif pour la réduction d'un cation ou l'oxydation d'un anion et il est positif pour l'oxydation d'un cation ou pour la réduction d'un anion. Le courant de migration a donc tendance à augmenter ou à diminuer le courant total observé.
