The Minister's Committee on Air Policy Issues was established in December 1996 by the Minister of Transport at that time to discuss and report on air policy issues, including union concerns expressed during negotiation of the restructuring plan of Canadian Airlines International. Made up of a broad cross-section of users and providers of air services, the committee was asked to assess the current state of the industry, to analyse future trends and prospects, and to recommend ways to help foster a competitive and stable business environment.
