Les particules se concentrent dans le plan médian entre les deux miroirs magnétiques. Il s'ensuit une expansion des lignes de force due à la pression du plasma dans ce plan, ce qui a pour effet d'augmenter le rapport de miroir et d'entraîner un nouveau renforcement de la concentration des particules dans le plan médian.
