a ribosome associated with the mitochondrion having a sedimentation constant of 70S.

CONT

mitochondrial ribosomes consist of a large subunit (50S) and a small subunit (30S). The large subunit contains at least two rRNA molecules, one of 23S and one of 5S, whereas the small subunit contains one rRNA molecule of 16S. These ribosomes are smaller than those in the cytoplasm. All the mitochondrial rRNA molecules are encoded by mitochondrial DNA.
