Rope coil formed by holding one end of the rope and coiling it into loops, then securing the ends to ensure that the coil maintains its circular shape.

CONT

For carrying or storing, the rope is normally coiled, most commonly in the mountain coil (fig. 6-3) or the butterfly coil (fig. 6-4). ... The mountaineer's coil is advantaged when the rope is carried over a pack.

The mountaineer's coil or shoulder coil can be carried easily over the shoulder and across chest or over a pack.

Selon les illustrations dans les sources VERIN 1991 (Initiation et perfectionnement à l'escalade : technique et pédagogie) et DAHAU 1989 (Haute montagne et alpinisme), pour créer cet écheveau, il s'agit de prendre un bout de la corde en main et de la lover en formant des boucles. Une fois que l'écheveau est complété, les deux bouts de la corde sont liés en un nœud afin de préserver la forme circulaire des boucles.

Pour maintenir la corde pliée. On utilise deux méthodes : la méthode classique [...] et la méthode dite «anglaise», qui est particulièrement pratique pour porter la corde en travers du buste, ou sur le sac à dos.
