A technique used in multiple-test assessment to ensure that weakness in one test or paper is not compensated for and/or obscured by high scores in other tests or papers; it involves establishing a minimum cut-off score in each test or paper.

OBS

Where, in psychological testing, a candidate is given a number of tests (eg a test battery), but it is necessary to ensure that a weakness in one test score is not compensated for and obscured by high scores in other tests. A minimum cutoff score is established for each test and a candidate falling below such a score is picked out whatever his/her total score for all tests.
