Any physical or chemical agent ("mutagenic agent") significantly increasing mutational events and thus mutation rates above the spontaneous background level (antimutagen).

Mutations resulting from treatment with such agents are called "induced mutations," as opposed to the normally occurring "spontaneous mutations."
