CGIT (Canadian Girls in Training) is an interdenominational Christian group for girls, ages 12 to 17. It was founded in 1915, with support from the YMCA, and served Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches. In the early years, it was administered by the interdenominational Religious Education Council. By the 1950s, it fell under the Canadian Council of Churches’ Department of Christian Education. The Department's national CGIT Committee is complemented by provincial CGIT boards and local CGIT committees. The provincial board was known as the BC Provincial Girls' Work Board until 1959, and thereafter as the BC Provincial CGIT Board. CGIT on the BC mainland ceased in 1996 but continues on Vancouver Island.
