NATIONAL CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS [1 record]

English

Subject field(s)
  • Names of Events
  • Curling
OBS

The adjective of nationality is usually mentioned in a designation instead of "National," or it has been mentioned before the generic expression is used. The name thus becomes, for example, "Canadian Curling Championship(s)," sometimes hereinafter referred to as "the National(s)," but still remains a generic expression since such a designation has to be accompanied by one of the words "Men's," "Women's" or "Mixed," always present in the official name of a tournament.

OBS

The word "Championship" is singular if only one champion, a men's team or a women's team, is crowned at the end of the tournament. If both men's and women's tournaments are held at the same time, the word "Championships" is used instead in the designation. The "National Curling Title" is won by the champion team; thus, the expression is not a synonym of "National Curling Championship," though used as such in certain contexts.

OBS
