[The National Institute of Jamaican-Canadians] provides assistance to [people] who, as a result of natural disaster, civil strife, or war, lack the basic necessities of life. [The Institute carries out] educational programs in order to promote and encourage education and educational achievement among Jamaican-Canadians and other people living in Canada and Jamaica. [It also] provides awards and prizes to students from the Jamaican-Canadian community enrolled in educational institutions in order to promote high academic achievements.
