The establishment of this Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba was announced in March 1996. Its creation was largely motivated by Winnipeg's hosting of the 1999 Pan American Games. This Centre is dedicated to supporting the pursuit of excellence by high performance athletes and coaches in Manitoba by providing an enhanced environment of programmes and services which would improve their performance at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, world championships and major international competitions. L'établissement de ce centre à Winnipeg (Manitoba) a été annoncé en mars 1996. Sa création a été en grande partie motivée par l'organisation des Jeux panaméricains de 1999 à Winnipeg. Ce centre vise à aider les athlètes et les entraîneurs de haut niveau au Manitoba à poursuivre l'excellence en leur offrant de meilleurs programmes et services en vue de rehausser les performances aux Jeux olympiques, aux Jeux panaméricains, aux championnats du monde et aux grandes compétitions internationales.
