Les sources de pollution et les moyens de lutte contre la pollution [...] Les condensats des lessiveurs (ou les condensats de térébenthine) et les condensats provenant des corps d'évaporation de la liqueur faible sont des sources concentrées de DBO et de soufre réduit. Il faut rectifier à la vapeur ces faibles volumes de liquide pour en supprimer le méthanol, les composés gazeux du soufre à l'état réduit et les autres matières volatiles, et réduire ainsi la DBO avant de les rejeter. La rectification à la vapeur consiste essentiellement en une épuration par distillation étagée, où la vapeur en contact direct sert de source de chaleur. On refroidit suffisamment les gaz chauds qui s'échappent par le haut de la colonne pour faire condenser l'eau et on brûle les incondensables dans le four à chaux.
