M.E. Gurney et ses collaborateurs de l'université de Chicago ont [...] identifié un nouveau messager moléculaire reconnu à la fois par le système immunitaire et par le système nerveux. Il s'agit d'une protéine qu'ils ont appelée la neuroleukine et qui agit d'une part sur certains types de neurones, d'autre part sur les lymphocytes B responsables de la production des anticorps. Chez l'homme, l'analyse par des méthodes immunologiques d'extraits d'organes a permis de déceler la présence de neuroleukine essentiellement dans les muscles squelettiques, le cerveau et la moelle osseuse.
