Neutron energy spectrum effect. Changes in the temperatures of the various materials in the core with which the neutrons interact, will alter the energy distribution of the thermal neutrons (also called the “neutron temperature”).

L’effet de spectre est lié à la modification de la répartition énergétique des neutrons : c’est principalement le spectre des neutrons thermiques, lié au spectre de Maxwell et donc à kT, qui est concerné; T n’est plus maintenant la température du combustible mais celle du modérateur. Si toutes les sections efficaces variaient proportionnellement avec la vitesse des neutrons, par exemple selon une loi en 1/v [où v représente la vélocité des neutrons], cette modification de spectre ne modifierait pas la réactivité.
