It is common, however, for a distant aircraft to be inaudible until the noise lobe passes over the listener and the sound seems to appear suddenly. The reverse can happen as it flys away.

En étudiant les propfans, l'équipe d'Airbus a conclu que les bruits engendrés par la turbine étaient négligeables par rapport aux bruits d'hélices et que parmi ces derniers, le bruit propre à chaque hélice créé par les propfans provient des interactions entre hélices, chacune «entraînant des fluctuations de portance sur les pales de l'autre hélices». Ces phénomènes engendrent les fameux lobes de bruit.
