Les termes anglais «appropriation» et «vote» peuvent se rendre tous les deux en français par «crédit». Le mot «crédit» s'emploie non seulement dans son sens propre d'autorisation parlementaire (en anglais «appropriation»), mais encore dans le sens de demande ou projet de crédit (en anglais, «vote»). Comme le contexte ne permet pas toujours d'établir nettement cette distinction, le Groupe d'étude de la terminologie comptable adopte l'emploi du terme «crédit» dans les deux cas.
