La Loi sur les lettres de change (Canada) établit deux modes de barrement : le barrement général et le barrement spécial. Est à barrement général le chèque dont le recto est traversé obliquement par deux lignes parallèles comportant entre elles la mention banque, accompagnée ou non des mots «non négociable» ou de deux lignes parallèles, simplement ou avec les mots «non négociable», tandis qu'est à barrement spécial et au nom d'une banque le chèque qui porte en travers de son recto le nom de cette banque, accompagné ou non des mots «non négociable».

What would you ask of a potential partner in government? Are there any nonnegotiables? Owen: There is nothing that is "nonnegotiable". But it is inconceivable that we could form a coalition with a government that tolerates unemployment (Tories), or a government that unilaterally disarmed without being part of the multilateral arms-control negotiations (Labor), or a government that was not making some progress toward the introduction of proportional representation.
