[In percutaneous discotomy,] a hollow tube, called a Nucleotome, is inserted into the nucleus [of an intervertebral disc]. Bits of nucleus are sucked into the tube, chopped up ... then flushed out.

The nucleotome was used for suction aspiration in two cases of osteomyelitis of the spine.
