A type of "extinction" seen in birefringent crystal sections in which the vibration directions are inclined to a crystal axis or direction of cleavage.

La direction de vibration de l'analyseur étant matérialisée dans l'oculaire par un fil et la platine étant graduée, il est aisé de mesurer l'angle entre la direction d'"extinction" d'une lame et celle de sa plus grande longueur: l'extinction et dite "droite" si cet angle est nul, "oblique" dans le cas contraire.
