L'Ochotona princeps (pica d'Amérique) est un petit animal dépourvu de queue, au corps en boule et au nez busqué, mesurant environ 175 mm. Il habite les montagnes de l'ouest de l'Alberta, de la Colombie-Britannique et du Yukon. Animal diurne, il sort le matin de bonne heure et, peu après le coucher du soleil, il disparaît dans son nid tapissé d'herbes et dissimulé dans une fente de rocher.
