Treasury Department created 1867. Officially established April 6, 1954. Absorbed the functions of the Office of the Chief Economist December 15, 1967. Name changed June 13, 1968 to Department of Treasury and Economics. Amalgamated April 1, 1972 with Department of Municipal Affairs to form Ministry of Treasury, Economics and Intergovernmental Affairs. Split up August 16, 1978 to form Ministry of Treasury and Economics and Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs. Ministry of Finance was established February 1, 1993 by the amalgamation of the Ministry of Financial Institutions (established 1986 when the former Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations became the new Ministry of Financial Institutions), Ministry of Treasury and Economics and Ministry of Revenu (established July 23, 1968. Name changed April 1, 1972 to Ministry of Revenue).
