Health Canada. The Office of Laboratory Security (OLS) was established within the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response (CEPR) as a result of the Health Canada realignment process. Canada's national centre of expertise for biosafety and biocontainment, namely the Office of Biosafety (OBS), was amalgamated into the new Office of Laboratory Security from the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control (LCDC) in June 2000.

Le Bureau de la sécurité des laboratoires (BSL) a été institué à l'intérieur du Centre des mesures et des interventions d'urgence (CMIU) par suite du processus de restructuration de Santé Canada. Le centre national canadien d'expertise en matière de biosécurité et de confinement biologique, à savoir le Bureau de biosécurité, a été fusionné au nouveau Bureau de la sécurité des laboratoires à partir du Laboratoire de lutte contre la maladie (LLCM) en juin 2000.
