During a sports competition, the person entitled to make announcements, present the athletes, announce the official results, or give information of public interest.

OBS

"Official announcer" is sometimes used, i.e. for diving events: the diver has to give, at least 24 hours in advance, full information about each of his or her chosen dives and the announcer makes the "official announcement" of each dive while he or she gets to the diving board or platform.

Au cours des Jeux Olympiques, un annonceur officiel est chargé de cette tâche sur chacun des sites de compétition, de même qu'aux cérémonies d'ouverture et de clôture; il en est de même à toute compétition d'envergure, championnat mondial ou national, essais de sélection ou de qualification, ou autre.

OBS

«Annonceur officiel» est parfois utilisé, dans les épreuves de plongeon par exemple : chaque concurrent ou concurrente doit remettre, au moins 24 heures avant le début de la compétition, une liste complète et détaillée des plongeons choisis, et l'«annonce officielle» de chaque plongeon est faite au moment où le plongeur ou la plongeuse se présente sur le tremplin ou à la plate-forme.

OBS

Le Comité International Olympique (CIO) demande de respecter le nom des Jeux Olympiques tel qu'établi dans la Charte olympique, soit d'utiliser la majuscule «O». Par contre, les règles d'écriture de la langue française recommandent d'utiliser «Jeux olympiques», graphie préconisée par Sport Canada.
