Capa del océano en la que logra penetrar un poco de luz solar, pero no en cantidad suficiente para que se produzca fotosíntesis.

CONT

La capa de agua superficial que tiene suficiente luz para la fotosíntesis se llama zona eufótica, y allí donde el agua es muy limpia y transparente puede alcanzar desde la superficie hasta los 100 - 130 metros de profundidad. La zona de penumbra es la zona oligofótica, y por debajo y hasta el fondo se encuentra la zona afótica, en la que no hay luz de origen solar.
