Une étude d'oncogénicité de 2 ans chez le rat a montré une augmentation de l'incidence chez la femelle des néoplasmes hépatiques et des polypes utérins et chez le mâle des adénomes thyroïdiens à la dose élevée de 25 mg/kg/jour. La dose sans effet tumorigène (5mg/kg/jour) détermine une exposition sanguine 25 fois supérieure à l'exposition humaine. Un étude d'oncogénicité à 2 ans chez la souris a entraîné une induction de tumeurs ovariennes bénignes à toutes les doses.

Ne pas confondre avec le terme «cancérogénicité» (voir cette fiche), qui ne s'emploie que pour désigner la propriété d'une substance qui peut provoquer ou favoriser l'apparition de tumeurs malignes seulement.

The primary interest of this laboratory is in the mechanism of cell transformation and oncogenicity of receptor protein tyrosine kinases (RPTKs). Currently, we are studying the ros oncogene, originally discovered in an avian sarcoma virus, human insulin receptor (IR) and human insulin-like growth factor I receptor (IGFR). Molecular basis for the oncogenic activation as well as signalling transduction pathways responsible for normal and oncogenic functions of those receptor PTKs are being explored. Regulation and intervention of those oncogenic RPTKs by potential suppressor "anti-oncogene" such as protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTPase) and dominant-negative mutants of downstream signalling molecules are being inquired. Finally, potential role of those and other RPTKs in the development and progression of human malignancy, particularly breast cancer, are also being examined.
