The Ottawa Health Research Institute (OHRI) was formed on April 1, 2001 through the merger of The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the Loeb Health Research Institute. After eight years, the Ottawa Health Research Institute is changing its name to the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, as the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital and an affiliated institute of the University of Ottawa. It has grown rapidly to become one of the top hospital-based research institutes in Canada. L'Institut de recherche en santé d'Ottawa, fut créé le 1er avril 2001, suite à la fusion de l’Institut de recherche de l’Hôpital d'Ottawa et de L'Institut Loeb de recherche en santé. Après huit années d’existence, l'Institut de recherche en santé d'Ottawa (IRSO) deviendra l'Institut de recherche de l'Hôpital d'Ottawa (IRHO). L'Institut est l'établissement de recherche de L'Hôpital d'Ottawa affilié à l'Université d'Ottawa. Il est rapidement devenu l'un des plus grands et des plus importants instituts de recherche en milieu hospitalier au Canada.
