OWL: Even though the natural initialism for "Web Ontology Language" is "WOL," the abbreviation "OWL" is used because it is an easily pronounced acronym that yields good logos, suggests wisdom and honours computer scientist William A. Martin’s One World Language knowledge representation project.

Lo que hace OWL es proporcionar un lenguaje para definir ontologías estructuradas que pueden ser utilizadas a través de diferentes sistemas. Las ontologías, que se encargan de definir los términos utilizados para describir y representar un área de conocimiento, son utilizadas por los usuarios, las bases de datos y las aplicaciones que necesitan compartir información específica, es decir, en un campo determinado como puede ser el de las finanzas, medicina, deporte, etc. Las ontologías incluyen definiciones de conceptos básicos en un campo determinado y la relación entre ellos.

lenguaje de ontologías web: “web” se escribe en minúscula cuando se emplea como adjetivo, como en “página web”. En cuanto al número, es frecuente el plural invariable (sitios web).

Owl magazine is a Canadian children's magazine aimed at the 9 to 13 year age group. It is published ten times per year. Since it was founded in 1976, its focus has shifted from science and nature to a more general variety of subjects. Related publications from OWL have included videos and books, published by former owner OWL Communications. OWL was purchased by French publisher Bayard Press in 1997.
