La nature minéralogique du minerai varie suivant sa position par rapport au paléorelief. Dans le cas où ce paléorelief tend à être submergé (transgression) ou à émerger de plus en plus (régression), il y a translation des zones minéralogiques et apparition d'une zonalité verticale.

OBS

Le plus souvent, il s'agit d'un ancien relief résiduel sur une pénéplaine (monadnock).
