A pulse which becomes smaller during inspiration. It is an exaggeration of the normal respiratory variation of the pulse and occurs with cardiac tamponade and constrictive pericarditis.

The term "paradoxical pulse" was recommended by the Medical Signs and Symptoms Committee.
