Cavitation is the production and collapse of partial vacuum cavities in the water. It reduces the effectiveness of propellers, and also generates tremendous amounts of noise.

Au bout d’un moment, la vitesse de vaporisation atteint un seuil au-delà duquel ça ne peut plus augmenter. Il se produit alors un phénomène très connu qui tend à maintenir la valeur de la pression à la valeur de la pression tensorielle du fluide. Des cavités de vide partiel ou total se créent. C’est la cavitation.
