The purpose of the Pension Benefits Guarantee Fund (the Fund) is to guarantee payment of certain pension benefits of certain defined benefit pension plans that are wound up under conditions specified in the Pension Benefits Act, and regulations thereto.

[...] la Loi sur les régimes de retraite de 1980 a créé le Fonds de garantie des prestations de retraite (FGPR). Ce fonds ontarien, qui demeure le seul fonds de garantie protégeant les engagements d’employeurs privés au Canada en matière de régimes de retraite, garantit des prestations précises pouvant atteindre 1 000 $ par mois par participant. Les créances à verser pour des régimes déjà interrompus au 31 mars 2006 totalisaient, d’après les chiffres communiqués par le FGPR, 104 064 000 $.
