People First is an organization that was formed because some of the people in our communities felt that they were not considered as people first. They felt that they were talked about, talked to, thought about, and treated according to the disabilities that others labelled them with.

Personnes d'abord du Canada fut mis sur pied parce que plusieurs personnes dans nos communautés se sentaient définies et perçues d'abord par leur handicap et non en tant que personnes. Elles étaient donc traitées, jugées sous l'étiquette que leur avaient collée les autres. La façon de leur parler ou de parler d'eux était également définie par ces étiquettes. Les fondateurs de Personnes d'abord du Canada ont trouvé cette situation injuste.
