Cette déformation peut être confondue avec un pied bot varus équin, mais il existe deux éléments fondamentaux qui l'en distinguent complètement : la déformation peut être entièrement réduite; il n'y a pas d'équinisme de l'arrière-pied; et le pied après réduction de la supination peut être porté franchement en flexion dorsale.
