C'est la coquille proprement dite [d'une bélemnite. Le phragmocône] a la forme d'un cône légèrement arqué, enchâssé dans l'alvéole du rostre. Des «cloisons» concaves vers l'avant la divisent en loges. La première loge est globuleuse; le «siphon», qui traverse toutes les autres loges en position marginale et ventrale n'y pénètre pas.
