Debido a sus orígenes, el pickleball se configura como una mezcla de elementos de distintos deportes de raqueta, como el tenis, el bádminton y el tenis de mesa; se caracteriza por una dinámica de juego y una técnica de golpeo muy similar al tenis aunque, a diferencia de éste, se juega en una pista más pequeña, con una pala muy ligera y una pelota de plástico perforada, y se sirve por debajo de la cintura.
