Énantiomère: (n.m.) - (énantiomorphe, inverse optique, antipode optique). Qualifie les deux formes isomères d'un même composé qui, possédant un carbone asymétrique, sont images l'une de l'autre dans un miroir. Les deux énantiomères font tourner le plan de polarisation de la lumière du même angle mais en sens contraire: l'un est dextrogyre (+) l'autre lévogyre (-). Le mélange des deux énantiomères en quantités égales est dit racémique.
