A major potato diversion program was undertaken by the federal and provincial governments, involving some six million hundredweight. Potatoes were spread on fields during the cold winter months or shipped to food banks across Canada. Ironically, the quality of the 2000 potato crop was considered as one of the best ever for the province.

Un important programme de résorption des excédents de pommes de terre a été entrepris par les gouvernements fédéral et provincial, lequel programme mettait en cause six millions de quintaux de pommes de terre. Ironiquement, la qualité de la récolte de pommes de terre en 2000 a été jugée comme l'une des meilleures qu'ait connue la province.
