As the principle of linguistic duality sanctioned in s. 16(1) can serve as a basis for specific obligations on the part of the government (in education, for example) we submit that, simarly to the principle of protection of linguistic minorities, the principle of advancement towards linguistic equality plays an important role in assessing governmental actions when those actions have a negative impact on the preservation of the two official languages of Canada and the enhancement of their minority communities. 1, record 1, English, - principle%20of%20advancement%20towards%20linguistic%20equality

1, record 1, French, - principe%20de%20progression%20vers%20l%27%C3%A9galit%C3%A9%20linguistique
