Formally, this is the Governor General acting by and with the advice and consent of the [King's] Privy Council for Canada; in practice, it is the Governor General acting with the advice and consent of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The name "Queen's Privy Council for Canada" was replaced by "King's Privy Council for Canada" in September 2022.

Depending on the reigning monarch, the designation will be "King's Privy Council for Canada" or "Queen's Privy Council for Canada."
