L'échantillonnage aléatoire simple est une forme d'échantillonnage probabiliste. Les méthodes d'échantillonnage probabiliste sont très différentes des méthodes d'échantillonnage non probabiliste comme l'échantillonnage de commodité, l'échantillonnage dirigé ou l'échantillonnage en boule de neige. Dans l'échantillonnage probabiliste, un échantillon est prélevé selon une démarche aléatoire qui attribue à chacun des membres de la population une probabilité connue d'être sélectionné.
